Good morning one and all,
Guess what? Yes it’s Wednesday which means that our morning housegroup will be meeting at Rookswood Road from 09:30 - 11:00. If you wish to talk about Paul’s first letter to the Corinthians you are more than welcome. We will also be drinking coffee, sharing our week’s experiences from last Wednesday and discussing Sunday’s passage from Revelation. A varied 90 minutes.
So let’s delve into 1 Corinthians chapter 2…
Paul demonstrates his humility as he tells the Corinthian church that he doesn’t have fancy words or superior wisdom as he preaches. All he knows is what Jesus said and did. He comes and preaches with trembling and fear, not with wise and persuasive words but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power. I know just how he feels as I write my words every Wednesday, but like Paul I feel called to write down what I feel the Spirit is saying to me. That’s great, well done Paul and well done Chris eh? But what about you? What are we to do with this passage? I think it gives us confidence to talk about Jesus. Maybe to friends, at work possibly with family. We don’t need special words or phrases. If we’ve been filled with the Spirit our own testimony should be in our own words so that those that know us can see that we are the same people that we were before we became a Christian, we just think differently. We can only speak of our experiences because we, no one, can know the mind of God. He reveals to us those things that we need and can understand. Paul speaks of the rulers of his age do not understand this basic truth - and rulers through the ages haven’t changed much in this respect. “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love Him.
God is mysterious,.. He is! No one understands fully, absolutely no one. We can only understand that which He reveals to us through the Holy Spirit. Look at it like this…
To drive a car we don’t need to
know how the engine works, how the gears mesh together when we move the gear lever or how electricity turns into light. No we just need to know what buttons, levers and switches to operate in order to keep the car safely on the road. Everything else happens without us understanding. God is much more complex than a car and all we need to know is to press the prayer button, enter the Jesus route into our sat-nav and fill the tank with His love. Remember even the most famous/gifted of preachers has no more knowledge of the mind of God than you or I, but listen to them all the same because the Spirit may speak to you through their words.
Read the chapter, it’s very short, and when you speak of Jesus use your own words with confidence.
May you know that God is blessing you today Amen
